'Ionia - The Arid Tundra' is my thesis film, the culmination of all that I learned at SVA, condensed into a 3 minute film. It is a BBC & Attenborough inspired nature documentary set on an alien exoplanet. While the time I worked on this absolutely sucked (2020 into 2021), I am very happy with how this film turned out, despite everything. I am eternally thankful that my friends and peers enjoy this fun and strange departure from the thesis film norm.
Below you can find the visual development behind the concept of Ionia. This was a side project for my Visual Development class while I was working on the film. The scientists are backburner characters if Ionia ever needs a story with sapient characters, but that's not what Ionia's about. It's about capturing the nuances of animal behavior that we find so interesting and endearing, and putting that to animation.
